Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis: We seek to expand cooperation with India
On 21 September in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with India's External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and discussed the development of bilateral relations, economic cooperation, as well as regional security.
“We enjoy a friendly and successful bilateral relationship. India plays an important balancing role in the Indo-Pacific region and has significant influence on the post-pandemic recovery of the world economy. The two like-minded countries with similar views on many issues, ranging from support for democracy, effective multilateralism to a rules-based international order and respect for international law. We should definitely continue to actively maintain and expand our dialogue", said Landsbergis.
Landsbergis informed his Indian counterpart about Lithuania’s plans to strengthen its representation in India by opening the Honorary Consulate in Hyderabad this year. In addition, Lithuania's Foreign Minister presented Lithuania's interests in developing bilateral relations with India in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. Landsbergis also called on India to consider the possibility of establishing an embassy in Vilnius and invited India's External Affairs Minister to visit Lithuania.
