Diplomatic relations were established on 2 September 1991.
From 1991 to 1993, Vincas Balickas served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Ireland after the re-establishment of independence (resided in Great Britain).
From 1991 to 1995, Richard Anthony O’Brien served as the first Ambassador of Ireland to Lithuania (resided in Poland).
