On 22 May 1922 Greece recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 7 January 1992 diplomatic relations between the two countries were re-established.
From 1996 to 1997, Romanas Podagėlis served as the first Lithuanian Ambassador to Greece after the re-establishment of independence (resided in Italy).
From 1993 to 1998, Emmanuel Kalpadakis served as the first Ambassador of Greece to Lithuania (resided in Sweden).
