At the session that took place in Canada on 7 October, the Assembly of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) adopted a resolution condemning the actions of the Government of the Republic of Belarus in committing an act of unlawful interference that deliberately endangered the safety and security of Ryanair Flight FR 4978 and the lives of all those on board, when on 23 May 2021 it diverted the passenger plane on an international route to Vilnius to land in Minsk, thus violating the Chicago Convention.

Establishing a panel is the second step in the WTO’s dispute settlement process, which includes an assessment by three independent experts in trade law to determine whether the measures taken by a WTO member conform with the WTO law.

On 24 January, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis participated remotely in the G7+ Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Ukraine Energy Sector Support at the invitation of the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Landsbergis discussed the need to deliver equipment to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy sector due to the Russian attacks with representatives from the world’s largest economies.
